Dear
friends. Dont miss these photos of the America we (i.e., some of us)
grew up in. The war that all of America supported. The tremendous contribution
of women, without whose input we probably would not have won the war. I just
could never grasp how America mobilized its war machine so quickly and
successfully--just all of the planes and ships built in such a short time, for
instance (the war lasted only 4 years.) Kids lying about their ages to go fight
for America, some hiding their disabilities so they could get in. Many
celebrities joined up. God bless that generation of Americans, and send more. I
read recently that about 20 of the most elite universities in US do not now
require American history in their curriculum. That should be a federal law. How
can our kids appreciate what we have if they never learn how hard it was won
and kept and sacrificed for??? It's like money: Money earned is precious.
Inherited is often taken for granted.

Sent my by a friend in the UK , who has a
friend in Russia who somehow collected these very American pictures.
There is NOTHING like Kodachrome -- best
color system ever used in photography -- and, what's more, I've NEVER seen
prints from slides come out as perfectly as these have done.
If you're old enough to remember the '40s at
all, and I think most (not all) of you are, prepare to be yanked back into the 40s more vividly
than you ever imagined possible. These look SO right!!!!
