Monday Night News and Rumors

Monday Night News and Rumors

02/03/2014
TNT:

Holitnaron: My brother in law actually knows a guy who cashed out when this was Kuwait. He said for months no info or disinformation just like now. He held on ignoring them and cashed out Kuwait dinar to USD when it actually happened.

AJM063:  Hi everyone. I have a very good friend who is a newbie, and she is really struggling financially. She lives out in San Diego. Today she decided to go to all 3 banks to ask about the Dinar. Here is what she was told:

Chase: They said "We can't tell you yet." At least no denial.

Bank of America: They were kind of nasty. She was told they will never sell nor redeem the Iraqi Dinar.

Wells Fargo: She was told they had a meeting last Friday and were told they would have new rates on screen today but that bank officer did not know why it never happened..

I think this is encouraging, don't you?   Regards  AJM

Experts: Iraqi Central Bank controls the gold market

This is a great way to start the afternoon lineup off.....talk about Iraq GOLD....economists talking about how the CBI will control the GOLD....largely due to their success at controlling the inflation rate over the past several years.....then talking about how the GOLD will impact their currency.....it should bolster up their currency.....reduce reliance on the USD.....reduce circulation of foreign currency.....and will help in getting the 000's removed from the Iraqi currency....notice that said....Iraqi currency....not the stuff that we hold.....you have my permission to be excited.

Petrodollars and equality among provinces rivals do not meet

The Iraqi government is providing petrodollars (basically $5/barrel of oil produced or every 150 million cf of gas produced) to what they are calling "oil producing" provinces...of which there are considered 8. Now some of the other provinces that may be located adjacent to the oil producing provinces but do not produce any oil or gas, are beginning to say....we have to deal with the pollution from the oil and gas industry that contaminates our air....why shouldn't we get part of that petrodollar too.....well...IMO...for starters this isn't the time to be bringing this up.....it is time to approve the current budget....if you want to impact the budget then make your plea long before now.....saying....target the 2015 budget to make a difference. I'm not saying you don't have a case....just that your timing is all off.....besides the petrodollar is intended to help defray the heavy costs associated with the drilling, producing, and refining of the oil and gas.....this sounds like an environmental issue that should be taken care of in a different manner.....but go ahead and try to float your boat and see what happens....nothing ventured....nothing gained.

Warrants issued for judge and journalist for criticizing Nouri Maliki

Did you know it is against the law to defame or insult government employees in Iraq? Neither did I.....so be on your best behavior while in the country....this applies to the judicial system....and the news media as well.....kind of puts a restriction on things....a damper if you will. The judge that sentenced Saddam to the death penalty and a reporter that frequently appears on Iraqi TV were both served warrants for their arrest....for libel against Maliki.....the judge apparently was jailed and had to post bail to get out....both are awaiting further court dates. Iraq is near the bottom of the pile when it comes to media rights and freedom of speech it would seem.

Recommendations for the establishment of the Bank for Economic Development

Another article about Iraq needing a special bank for investors who will be assisting with economic development and rebuilding things like infrastructure projects....high rollers in other words......this type of bank would facilitate foreign investment capital...current banks in the country really are not geared in this manner. Investment in such a bank would help reduce or keep inflation down.....they also claim that the financial contributions to government projects will help reduce the presence of cash that must currently be "carried around" and as a result will cause a rise in the value of the currency. There is no mention of the CBI in this article....but I would assume.....they would have oversight involvement at the least. The Budget Law of 2006, which I have not reviewed, is claimed to approve such banks within the provinces to cover investment services and rebuilding infrastructure....makes me wonder....why haven't the provinces taken advantage of this before now.

Recording 45 new foreign company last month

If you rebuild it....they will come. Last month saw the addition of 45 new companies in Iraq....9 branches and 36 representative offices....a record month.....December 2013 saw a record 24 foreign companies setting up offices in Iraq.....as time goes by and people around the world hear of the investment and return capabilities in Iraq, more and more come through the front door.

Net confirms: Kurdistan applied customs tariff

Sometimes it just helps to read backwards to fully understand what you thought you just read.....a high level committee was formed to determine if the Kurds were really not collecting tariffs at the border....or did they.....well apparently the committee could not find any evidence that would support them failing to collect....the next big question though will be....where did the money go......you might begin to believe the Kurds have deep pockets.....even though the article states this....I find it difficult to believe...that not collecting the tariff would cause the destruction of the Iraqi economy.....more like....don't collect the tariff...you go to jail.

Economic Parliament: Read the budget within five days

I knew if I created enough of a stir that WS would find me something....thank you sir.....so the Economic Committee has plans of reading the budget within the next 5 days.....my question to them....what have you been doing the past 14 days or so.....you are being paid to do a job....you shouldn't have to be told...now it is time to read the budget....this is not grade school....I'll give them today for getting the Retirement Law passed....focus on one thing at a time and do it remarkably well....or just well...which they did....but what is wrong with tomorrow....or Wednesday or even Thursday for Pete's sake....this is a critical piece of the 2014 puzzle for so many people and departments....don't let this lag out there till the end of the session...be proactive and push for a reading......NOW....I did not like doing budgets when I had to do them....but I have never seen anyone that seems so afraid to tackle something....well maybe Denver yesterday....sorry Frank....stop the dilly-dallying and get on with this show.

Distribution of electronic cards in the provinces of Kurdistan and Nineveh and Kirkuk

Voter e-cards will be distributed in the Kurdistan region tomorrow and in Nineveh as well as Kirkuk.....wonder just how many will be given cards....they are saying...no card...no vote......they also talk about getting cards into Anbar....I say air mail them via the Apache helicopters that are on their way.....I would not like to have that route....21 million cards are in need of distribution.....wow....that is mucho lot.....my mind wanders a bit....wondering how many will lose or misplace their cards before the election....is this a political ploy I wonder.
