Monday News Summaries and Commentaries

This should be an interesting day....a run up to the Parliament session tomorrow. Maliki is in the news....so is Abadi of course....the new Iraq pushes forward and they struggle and try to overcome the past be it as it may....corrupt....it is time to set the record straight....may they be wise in their future choices.....looking for new ministers t be chosen tomorrow in Parliament.

Taps" and "rosary," al-Maliki Iraqi butt of jokes

So Maliki is becoming the butt of many jokes....well wonder who is having the final laugh on his 8 years of governance....it hasn't been a great ride for sure.....hopefully we are in for a smoother sail as we go forward.
....
President Fuad Masum up to France

President Masum to leave for France, Paris specifically to be involved in talks on fighting and combatting terrorism....PM Abadi apologizes to the French President for his absence for having to deal with Parliament over a couple of Minister nominations that must be made tomorrow.

Maliki mixed securities before the end of the deadline Abadi with the selection and defense and interior ministers

Maliki for the first time gave a speech yesterday, his first since leaving as Prime Minister....who do you think was really listening.....do you think they really care....should be a song in there somewhere.....he is not in favor of what he has heard of Abadi's choices for Defense or Interior Ministers....but he won't be the deciding factor and at this point I am not sure how much clout Maliki will even have with the State of Law coalition....meanwhile others are still throwing threats towards Abadi of pulling away from him if he doesn't act in their best interest....sticks and stones.....sticks and stones.

Tomorrow candidates security bags in front of Parliament

As promised, PM Abadi will present names for the Ministers of Defense, Interior, and also that of Water Resources.....any bets that no one will remember the name of the Water Resources Minister when the dust settles...again threats to walk away from the government if some people don't get their way.....it is time to test the metal of PM Abadi and see just how firm he can stand and carry forth his new government.

Abadi renounce his British

As required by Iraqi law....PM Abadi will be handing over his British citizenship to keep his position as PM.

Rapporteur of the parliament: the names of the candidates of the security ministries did not reach

No names from Abadi thus far reports Parliament....but I'm wondering if he could just bring them in his pocket tomorrow to the session. We shall see.

Fayad: economic future depends on the political situation of the state

An MP with the State of Law coalition is reporting that the economic future of Iraq depends on the political state....tell us something we don't already know.....they must move beyond their dependence on oil as a resource....allowing other sectors to catch up....these revelations all come on the forefront of the 2015 budget proposals.

Deputy for the Liberals: there will be no budget for 2014

According to one Liberal MP there will be no budget for 2014....instead they will push projects to 2015 and move forward....however, this is just the opinion of one individual and does not speak for the Finance Committee working on this issue.

Special / Tuesday's session, there will be no provision of general budget

No budget talk in the agenda for Tuesday's Parliament session....doesn't mean that it won't happen though at a later date....will the regions be allowed to export oil on their own...this could be a settling point for the budget it might seem.

Sahlani: 2014 budget contains the degrees of functional and delay will delay appointments

As we know this year is quickly drawing to a close.....focus is already turning to the 2015 budget.....meanwhile the 2014 budget...who has it....who is doing anything with it.....and it is getting to the point of who cares.....attention needs to be properly given to putting a worthwhile budget together for 2015.....but figure out where the 2014 budget is....can anything be done with it for the remaining three months of 2014.

Expert: partnerships with international banks promote investment

From an international standpoint.....Iraq continues to need to develop banks that will promote investment at the proper levels and sources and remain within the laws that exist....at the same time they recognize that some of these same laws require updates to them if Iraq is to be competitive in the international banking sector....they have to continue to push other industry sectors forward while they maintain their strong stance within the oil and gas sector as a world leader there.....more trust needs to be developed to make things happen on a more positive level for all other sectors....at least parts of their banking laws need amendments made to them to be able to work more effectively with international entities.

Conscription Bill to be proposed to Iraqi Parliament

A new Conscription Bill is being put before Parliament to make up for shortages in the proposed National Guard forces within Iraq....according to law....males between the ages of 16 and 63 must serve.....wow....what an age span....only if you are a PhD or Masters graduate are you exempted from serving.

Vice-Mrbd: interior and defense without candidates, and claims to postpone the designation for another week

I have a firm belief that some members of the State of Law coalition still do not wish to see Abadi succeed and as such they will do or say anything that could tarnish his role as PM.....so now they are alleging that Abadi does not have names of either the Defense or Interior Ministry positions and will ask for yet another week's extension.....shaking my head.....as with the CBI....watch what Abadi says....not what others say "for him...."

Abadi calls for an end to the economic boycott of some neighboring countries

PM Abadi says that it is time to end economic boycotts with neighboring countries....put our differences behind us and let us move forward to the benefit of all involved....the boycotts were appropriate at the time...but political change has allowed other changes to also evolve and it it time to open things back up.

Kaveh Mohammad: oil and gas law sponsor solving the problems of the center and Erbil

A member of the Oil and Gas Commission is calling for resolution to the issues between Central government and the Kurds....he is saying the rights of the Kurds need to be drafted into the oil and gas law and steps taken to resolve any further issues between the two entities.

A parliamentary source: tomorrow's meeting will not witness to provide general budget

A member of the Parliament Finance Committee says there will be no room on the agenda for tomorrow's Parliament session for the 2014 budget...pointing to the first of next week for a proposal to be put forth....they continue to collect data from government institutions this week.

Next month .. Exchange differences on salary increases for employees retroactively

The head of the temporary finance committee charged with dealing with the 2014 budget is saying that a budget would be approved for the remaining 3.5 months of 2014 at 44.5 trillion dinar with the exchange rate increase approved earlier by Parliament for the state employees....this should be the retroactive pay increase for state employees that goes back to January 1.....there would be a two part budget....one for the first 8.5 months....and the second for the remaining 3.5 months.

Cabinet assigns the General Secretariat of the follow-up anti-corruption strategy

The COM has provided an assignment to the General Secretariat to work on a 5 year plan that includes an anti-corruption strategy....one that will ensure stronger penalties for those caught in corruption activities.

The parliamentary Finance Committee gives the Government one week to the budget bill to Parliament

The head of the temporary Finance Committee is looking for the budget to be returned to Parliament from the COM...."Oh the Games That People Play Now"....remember that song....I think it is fitting here.....the committee leader is stating that she has asked the government for input on expected revenue as well as other income and expenditures for the last three months...but has not been given any response yet by the COM.

Iraqi House Speaker Signs Cooperation Agreement With The United Nations

Speaker of Parliament Jubouri has signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations for the purpose of developing legislative and supervisory action....this is designed to help in preparation of laws and governance and aimed toward greater transparency.

MP: UNP to hold meeting over settling nomination candidate for MoD post

IF.....this is true.....this is all that Iraq needs is the UN meddling in their business to "help" select who the Minister of Defense will be....too many hands in the process as it stands now.....let Abadi make his choice and vote upon who he puts forth.

MPs support the government's economic program despite "obstacles" and an expert described as "good"

Give PM Abadi time....give the Parliament time.....give President Masum time.....and I believe we will witness some very positive changes happening within Iraq....miracles don't happen overnight....they need some nurturing, especially when they have been neglected for upwards of 8 years....sure thing there will be obstacles...there has to be....but the success that is coming will be like nothing seen in Iraq in the past 8 years....they will find abilities to focus on sectors other than just oil and gas....agricultural, commercial, and other industries...that will flourish when they floundered in the past....a new kind of attention given to these areas....and most importantly.....a focus upon a "free economy".....this government brings with it new eyes, new insight, and new ideas that will likely see a strong bolstering to the economy going forward....sure enough a house cleaning needs to occur especially because of some of the last minute decisions that were made by Abadi's predecessor.....but they can and will overcome those issues as well.

Abadi receives 10 candidates for the interior and defense
PM Abadi got five names for Defense and five names for Interior and will be ready to give his selection to Parliament this week...based on his belief of competency and patriotism.....tomorrow should be the day of reckoning....we shall see.

So ends this round of summaries for Monday.
